European Methanol Summit 2026: Addressing the realities of methanol’s transition in Europe

14 October - 17 October

The European Methanol Summit 2026 will take place on 14–15 October in Valencia, Spain, bringing together key players from across the methanol value chain at a crucial moment for the sector. Now in its fifth edition, the event continues to position itself as a platform for meaningful discussion, focusing not just on future ambitions but on the practical and commercial realities shaping the industry.

As Europe moves towards stricter regulatory frameworks and increasing pressure to decarbonise, the summit will explore how policies such as emissions trading and maritime fuel regulations are translating into real market demand. At the same time, participants will reflect on Europe’s competitiveness in a global context, particularly in relation to rapidly evolving markets in Asia and beyond, as well as the broader impact of geopolitics and investment conditions.

A central part of the discussion will focus on the challenges of scaling up renewable methanol. From the availability of sustainable feedstocks such as biogenic CO₂ and biomass, to the financial risks associated with first-of-a-kind projects, the programme will address the key barriers that developers and producers face today. The transition from pilot projects to fully commercial plants, alongside the alignment of financing mechanisms and regulatory frameworks, will be key themes throughout the event.

The second day will shift attention towards demand and infrastructure, highlighting the role of shipping as an early driver for renewable methanol uptake, as well as the emerging potential of methanol-to-jet pathways in sustainable aviation fuels. Discussions will also cover infrastructure readiness in European ports, market mechanisms for long-term supply, and methanol’s broader role not only as a fuel, but also as a circular feedstock for chemicals and materials.

With confirmed contributions from major industry players, the summit offers a focused environment for exchange among decision-makers, fostering dialogue that is both strategic and grounded in real-world constraints. For projects like ALCHEMHY, such events represent valuable opportunities to stay aligned with industry developments, identify synergies, and contribute to the broader transition towards a more sustainable and resilient chemical sector.
