ALCHEMHY and FIREFLY have established a strategic synergy to accelerate the green transition of the European chemical industry. While each project brings a distinct technological focus, their shared vision of decarbonising chemical production and reducing reliance on fossil-based and critical raw materials has created strong grounds for collaboration.
ALCHEMHY is pioneering electrified production routes for essential platform chemicals such as ammonia and methanol, developing advanced reactor technologies and materials that enable decentralised, renewable-powered manufacturing. In parallel, FIREFLY is advancing electrochemical methods to recycle metals from spent catalysts and produce new (electro)catalysts for next-generation chemical processes, supported by predictive AI tools and renewable energy integration.
Together, the two projects complement each other’s efforts by addressing key aspects of sustainability across the catalyst lifecycle and the chemicals value chain. Their cooperation will allow the exchange of knowledge, modelling tools, and pilot-scale learnings, ultimately strengthening the impact of both initiatives.
This synergy highlights the European commitment to clean technology innovation, supporting energy resilience, industrial competitiveness, and a climate-neutral future.
