The ALCHEMHY project officially launched with a two-day Kick-Off Meeting held in Zaragoza, Spain, hosted by CIRCE in early November 2024. This event brought together representatives from the project’s consortium, which includes 16 partners from 8 European countries. The meeting marked the beginning of a four-year journey to transform the chemical industry through electrified, zero-emission production routes for ammonia and methanol using green hydrogen as feedstock.
The Kick-Off Meeting provided a platform for partners to align on the project’s goals, methodologies and timelines. The agenda included detailed presentations on each work package, discussions on synergies between technical and dissemination efforts and collaborative brainstorming sessions to ensure a unified approach to achieving the project’s objectives.
During the meeting, the consortium highlighted ALCHEMHY’s ambitious vision of decarbonising the chemical industry. Partners shared insights on leveraging process intensification technologies, integrating renewable energy sources and using digital tools like digital twins to enhance efficiency and scalability.

A major focus of the meeting was fostering collaboration among academia, industry leaders, SMEs and policymakers. The project’s multi-disciplinary approach aims to drive innovation not only through technical advancements but also by creating robust frameworks for policy recommendations and market integration.
The Kick-Off Meeting laid the groundwork for the initial phases of ALCHEMHY, which will focus on developing advanced catalysts, reactor designs, and pilot-scale demonstrations. These efforts will support the project’s long-term goal of achieving Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 and preparing for industrial adoption.
The ALCHEMHY Kick-Off Meeting was a resounding success, reinforcing the consortium’s commitment to driving Europe’s transition to a sustainable and resilient chemical industry. The enthusiasm and expertise shared during these two days will undoubtedly fuel the project’s momentum as it tackles one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
Stay tuned for updates on ALCHEMHY’s progress and upcoming milestones as we work together to pave the way for a sustainable future!
