ALCHEMHY was represented at PSE 2026 – the 20th International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering, held in Erfurt, Germany, from 31 August to 3 September 2026. The international conference brought together researchers and industry representatives working across plasma, surface and vacuum technologies, with this year’s programme highlighting surface engineering for clean energy solutions.
During the conference, Seunghwan Bang from the University of Antwerp, an ALCHEMHY project partner, presented the poster:
“Effect of Catalytic Bead Size in a Packed-Bed DBD Reactor on the Plasma-Based Reverse Water–Gas Shift Reaction: A Step Toward Improved Plasma–Catalyst Contact.”
The work investigates how catalytic bead size can influence plasma–catalyst contact in packed-bed dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactors for the reverse water–gas shift reaction. This research contributes to ALCHEMHY’s activities on plasma-assisted pathways for converting CO₂ and hydrogen into valuable chemical intermediates, supporting the development of more electrified and flexible chemical production processes.
Building on the same research, the team has also submitted the manuscript “Improving plasma-catalyst contact in packed-bed DBD reactors: the role of bead size in CO₂ hydrogenation over Co/Al₂O₃” to EES Catalysis. The manuscript is currently under review.
Participation in PSE 2026 provided an opportunity to share ALCHEMHY research with the international plasma engineering community and exchange knowledge on emerging plasma technologies and their potential contribution to cleaner industrial processes.
